Public service,understood daily

लोक सेवा, हर दिन समझ के साथ

UPSC Darpan is the School of Public Service of Darpan Vidyadhaam: a free daily for civil services aspirants, built only from public, sourced material, in English and Hindi. No fee, no login, no advertising.

The daily method

What UPSC Darpan does every day

Every morning the day’s newspapers are read in full, and the stories that matter for the examination become study cards, a quiz and a short reading plan. Six habits carry the method.

Verified daily current affairs

Every page of the day’s newspapers read, and each fact checked against PIB, PRS, court orders and official sites before it is written.

Issue threads

A story is followed across editions as one thread, so revision follows the issue rather than the calendar.

Twelve Darpan Lenses

Each issue is read as a real tension, with both sides in their strongest form: the same twelve tensions, met again and again across the year.

Quizzes that explain every option

Prelims statements, each with a short explanation of why it is right or wrong. A wrong answer goes to the Mistake Vault and comes back for revision.

Ethics case studies

Real situations from the news, with stakeholders, options and the values at stake.

The Officer’s Lens

A daily Concept Booster class, taught the way an officer has to use the concept.

Anatomy of a study card

One news story, read the way an examiner reads it

Every card has the same eight parts, so an aspirant learns not just the fact but where it sits in the syllabus, the Constitution and the administration.

1
The newsWhat happened, in plain words, from the day’s paper.
2
The chainCause to effect in one line, so the story can be retold.
3
Static linkageThe Articles, laws and institutions behind it.
4
The syllabus lineThe exact line of the syllabus it serves, and how it has been asked.
5
Prelims factsChecked, crisp and testable.
6
Analysis through a LensThe real tension, with each side stated fairly.
7
A Mains questionWith a model approach, not a model answer to memorise.
8
The administrator’s viewWhat an officer on the ground would actually have to do.

Practice rooms

Reading becomes writing, and writing becomes judgement

Three rooms inside the Practice door of upscdarpan.in. Everything a learner writes stays on their own phone.

  1. Roz ka Uttar

One Mains question a day from the latest edition, a 15-minute timer, and the model approach shown only after the attempt. Then a short self-review and one line on what to fix tomorrow.

  2. Ethics Lab

The day’s case study, worked in order: first instinct, then the strongest opposing view, then one’s own considered view, and only then the model approach.

  3. Interview Sabha

A weekly board question tied to a study card, with a weak, an average and a balanced sample answer, and a note on why the balanced one works.

State aspirants welcome

Preparing for a State service? The same method serves you

Most of what a State civil services examination asks — polity, economy, environment, ethics, the art of a balanced answer — is already in the daily cards, the quiz and the practice rooms.

A State track is being built. The same method, rooted in a State: its news, its laws and institutions, and past questions from published papers. Until it opens, read UPSC Darpan daily, and join the community to hear when it does.

Our rules

Nothing that is not already public

Public examinations are a public trust. A free resource for aspirants keeps well away from them, and these are the rules we hold ourselves to.

Only public, sourced material

Every item rests on a public source: a gazette, a press release, a judgment, a published paper, the day’s newspapers.

No predictions

No “expected questions”, no guess papers, and no claim of insight into any paper an examining body sets.

No insiders, ever

We do not seek, accept or publish anything from paper-setters, moderators, evaluators or anyone with access to examination material.

Open correction

An error, once found, is corrected openly with the date of correction. Nothing is quietly changed.

What we never do

Lines we will not cross

Written down so that every aspirant can hold us to them.

  • Claim or imply any official status, approval or partnership
  • Charge aspirants, sell courses or carry advertising
  • Publish anything that is not already public
  • Predict questions, or offer “insider” guidance of any kind
  • Collect aspirants’ personal data: what you do on the site stays on your phone

Begin today

Twenty minutes with today’s cards

Open the day’s edition, take the quiz, write one answer. Come back tomorrow; the threads will be waiting.
